বাক্যে ব্যবহৃত প্রত্যেকটি শব্দকে Parts of Speech বলা হয়।

বাক্যে ব্যবহৃত প্রত্যেকটি শব্দকে Parts of Speech বলা হয়। সুতরাং, বাক্যে ব্যবহার করা ছাড়া একটি শব্দ কোন Parts of Speech তা বলা যাবে না। যেমন- আমরা জানি go একটি Verb। কিন্তু এই শব্দটি বাক্যে ব্যবহার না করা পর্যন্ত এটিকে Verb বলা যাবে না। কারণ go শব্দটি কখনো কখনো Noun হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়। তেমনি save শব্দটি Verb হিসেবে বহুল প্রচলিত হলেও এটি Preposition হিসেবেও ব্যবহৃত হতে পারে। সুতরাং, একটি শব্দ বাক্যে ব্যবহার ভেদে দুই বা ততোধিক Parts of Speech-এর কাজ করতে পারে।

Rahim eats rice (রহিম ভাত খায়।) এই Sentenceটিতে Rahim, eats এবং rice এই তিনটি Word আছে।এইভাবে প্রতিটি Sentence এর মধ্যে বিভিন্ন রকমের Word বা শব্দ ব্যবহার করা হয়, এগুলি Sentence এর একটি Part বা অংশ, এগুলিকেই Parts Of Speech বলে।
